Giving Advice So Others Will Listen

How do you give your advice to clients, without telling them straight out what to do?

First, why not straight out?

Two reasons, the first one of which is that it is almost instinct for people to close their ears when hearing advice, after all, they get it all day long. From TV commercials and talk shows, parents, friends – everywhere.

But there is a certain way to give advice that people will hear.

The second reason is that a coach’s job is NOT to tell people what to do. Coaching is based on the principle that ALL THE ANSWERS ARE WITHIN SOMEONE and they just need UNLOCKING.

To give advice in a way that does not violate the principles of coaching and doesn’t cause a client to close their ears to you I recommend using the following statement:

“May I tell you what I found helpful for me?”
